If you can crochet a chain
stitch, you can make this fun
necklace. But instead of yarn,
you're working with wire and
incorporating beads in the
stitch as you crochet.
Join the chain gang and crochet a multi-strand
beaded wire necklace - once you get the
hang of it, you’ll find it’s all too easy!

GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES
■ Spool of 32-gauge silver,
copper or gold beading wire
■ Wire cutters
■ 10-strand seed bead pack
(single or multi-coloured)
■ 3mm crochet hook
I7PXR While the stitches don't
have to be perfectly spaced,
you should aim for them to be
open and similar in size.
HERE’S HOW
STEP 1 Without cutting beading
wire off the spool, thread beads
onto a 1 m length of wire. To
do this, push end of wire
through 2 strands of beads,
pushing them down toward
the spool, then pull out and
discard thread.
STEP 2 Leaving a 5cm wire tail,
loop working wire (wire attached
to spool) around crochet hook,
then work 1 chain stitch.
STEP 3 Hook working wire and
pull it through loop of first chain
stitch, making a second stitch.
STEP 4 Slide 1 or 2 beads
along wire up to your hook
and, working another chain
stitch, incorporate the beads in
crochet stitching.
STEP 5 Work 1 or 2 chain
stitches without beads, then
repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all
the beads are worked.
STEP 6 Make 1 or 2 more chain
stitches then, leaving a 5cm
tail, trim wire before pulling it
through last chain stitch loop to
lock in stitch. Thread wire tails
at each end back through 3 lots
of bead sets. Make sure you
trim any excess wire.
STEP 7 Repeat Steps 1-5 to
make a total of 3-5 strands of
crocheted beaded wire. You can
make as many strands as you
like, but you will need another
pack of seed bead strands to
make more than 5.
STEP 8 Hold all your beaded
strands together, then gently
wrap them,
scarf-fashion,
around your neck.

■ Before you begin
this project, practise
working chain stitch
until your tension is
loose enough to hook
the beading wire
and easily bring it
through the loop.
■ Almost any size or
shape of bead can be
used - the only proviso
being that the hole
in the bead must be
large enough for the
wire to go through.
■ As you crochet, run
the wire through your
fingers as you work to
straighten out any kinks
and keep it supple.
